"Well I was born and raised here so I didn't really have a choice but it's actually a good thing I really liked growing up in Fort McMurray. I have 2 brothers that also grew up here, 1 is still here but the other one moved away.
I went to St. Gabriel and I went to Father Merc, then went away to university I completed my 1st degree in Lethbridge and then went to Edmonton for my 2nd degree, then I became a teacher. I knew a lot of teachers were retiring at the time so I came back to Fort McMurray so I could get a job. I only had to sub for 2 months before I got a full-time position teaching grade 3 at Saint Annes School. I worked there for 11 years and I decided to change schools last year to Sister Mary Philips.
I have seen so many different changes in Fort McMurray. Some were for the better for the most part. There are things that definitely are around that weren't around before.
I really love the different spots, it's a little different now after the fire. Up in Abasand there use to be a look-out spot that was just beautiful. I use to love taking people there to show them how beautiful it is here in Fort McMurray. I love how they've re-done and fixed up the snye area its really nice to go to now, it’s a really nice feature to have in the community.
